IVWF Announces $102,500 of Health and Wellness Funding for 18 Local Nonprofits

The Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation (IVWF) announces that 18 nonprofits have been selected to receive a one-year 2025 Health and Wellness grant.

 The 2025 IVWF Health and Wellness Grant Committee selected 18 nonprofits providing service to those with the greatest social and health inequities in Imperial County through a focus in health and wellness, community engagement or nonprofit capacity building. The grant fund this year was $102,500 and funding ranged from $5,000 to $10,000 per recipient.

“Each year, we continue to be inspired by the incredible dedication and impact of the nonprofit agencies serving our community,” said Antonio Romayor, Jr., Chairman of the Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation. “These organizations accomplish extraordinary work—often with limited resources—and yet they make a profound difference in the lives of our neighbors. As we begin a new year of funding, I’m proud that IVWF can play a part in strengthening their efforts and helping dreams become reality across the Valley.”

Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation aims to make the Imperial Valley A Better Place to Live for All. “As we look ahead, we remain deeply committed to improving the quality of life for all residents of Imperial County,” said Roque Barros, Executive Director of the Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation. “We’re proud to support organizations advancing health, wellness, and community engagement—especially in disinvested areas and among populations that have long been excluded from planning and decision-making. We also recognize and celebrate the nonprofits leading this work, and we’re dedicated to helping them build the capacity and strength needed to continue making lasting change.”

501(C)(3) nonprofits applied for funding in the following three areas:

  • Family & Community Wellbeing
  • Community Voice & Strength
  • Nonprofit Capacity Building

Below are examples of the kind of work that falls under each of the areas:

Family & Community Wellbeing

  • Food insecurity and healthy eating
  • Active living and physical activity
  • Mental and emotional health
  • Safe and healthy living neighborhoods
  • Social health
  • Programs that focus on the awareness and prevention of asthma, prenatal care, diabetes, and obesity
  • Health and wellness programs that benefit children, disadvantaged students, farm workers, homeless, LGBTQ, low-income families, seniors and veterans

Community Voice & Strength

  • Helping community members address the issues and needs they face in their communities
  • Engaging community members to work together on community priorities
  • Creating opportunities for community members to gather and socialize
  • Helping community members gain awareness and become better informed
  • Listening to the community to learn more about their priorities and helping them take actions to improve conditions
  • Building the community’s capacity so they can create the change they want to see

Nonprofit Capacity Building

  • Strengthening the operations of the organization
  • Strengthening the staff and team of the organization
  • Building a strong volunteer base
  • Attending conferences and workshops
  • Purchasing and/or improving equipment and software
  • Technical assistance or consulting services
